I didn't make a Veterans Day post because some things still hurt. Lots of friends who are no longer here. So, on Thanksgiving, I chose to move past this hurt and combine Veterans Day with my Thanksgiving post. Americans celebrate many things on Thanksgiving. Some are traditionalists and celebrate with the original idea in mind. Others just love the food and football on TV. Still, others celebrate a renewal of their life and the small victories in life and milestones they have overcome. The older I get, the more I become the latter. This year, I am Thankful for all my military friends, those who are no longer around, and those who continue to fight the personal battles and survive. I'm thankful for all the memories I have of that period in my life, both good and bad. The teaching moments, the fun we had, and all the jokes between us. I'm thankful for the places I traveled to and the world events I unwittingly participated in over the years. I am very grateful for the friends I made in the Air Force and the Navy.
On Dec 10th, 1983, I started my journey to becoming a veteran. That was the day I entered basic training in the Air Force at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. My Navy career began in 1997 after a little break from the service. Below are a few pictures from my military journal that I hope you enjoy.
Happy Thanksgiving. Mel and I hope you and your family have a wonderful day. Until later, Enjoy your coffee,
Larry
